Lockdown SA 2021
Ok. There is a lockdown in South Australia from 6:00 pm tonight. It was announced this morning. Yesterday, we heard of one elderly gentleman in the northern suburbs of Adelaide testing positive for the Delta variant of COVID-19. People were already talking and making alternative plans for the coming few days. Tonight, a group of guys were going to gather at my place, as we usually do each fortnight, to catch up and to discuss philosophical topics, yet last night we already decided to meet online instead, like we had been doing for a part of last year.
However, this morning there had been five more cases linked to the cluster in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Up to now, South Australia have had relatively zero community transmitted cases, with our last lockddown was last year. Whereas in the eastern states, the numbers have been going up and down like a yo-yo. I think Melbourne is in its fifth lockdown.
I feel that it is pretty rich for me to complain about go into lockdown, even though I am feeling frustrated and anxious. This is for numerous reasons. The usual frustrations such as events being cancelled, bans on most entertainment venues, shops only doing takeaways etc etc. Yet, with having a disability such as mine, especially living alone, there are additional considerations to deal with. Having to rely on support workers for all your personal care, it can be stressful because you know that they been to other people as a part of their job during the day. They are also stressed too.
Also, if I did get COVID-19, it would further complicate things because I would be quiet likely to get very ill and would be without my usual support workers to help. Most hospitals are not gear to caring for severely disabled people. However, I know that friends and workers who know me well would do their best to ensure that I would get the support I would need.
