OWeek Workshops and increased confidence
At the beginning of the week I attended a three day workshop series for people who are starting their PhDs at Flinders. I only went to the first two days as the workshops on the last day seemed to be on topics that I either knew about or could easily find information on. Many workshops were to do with how to progress in your PhD, such as literature review writing, thesis writing and managing supervisors. Much practical advice were given.
Over the past few months I have been continuing researching my topic, yet, also trying to get a clearer sense of what is involved in doing a PhD. I have been doing this by reading articles on various websites and watching online videos. Although, the workshops gave me a lot of useful tips and enabled me to meet other new doctoral students, I gained increased confidence in my ability to do the PhD. Up to recently, I felt that I have lacked some of the basic skills and knowledge needed for this level of study, but I realised at workshops I have a good handle on most of the things they were lecturing. This is not to say I haven’t got much to learn.
Wednesday I was fairly worn out and took it easy with study.
