Many Australian Taxi companies are offering booking via SMS on mobile phones. The following is just a handful I have found. Please feel free to let me know of any others via comments and I will add them to the list.
Note: please confirm the numbers with the companies before using them with private addresses.
Suburban Taxis
To make a booking – type your name, pick up address, date required, time required, destination, number of passengers, type of vehicle Taxi, Elite, MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle/Wheelchair Accessible), Mini Coach or Bus, and PIN if it is a Business Account ride, or you are a Frequent Traveller

Once you have sent your message, you will receive one of the following replies:
When the vehicle is on its way – “Received booking, vehicle on its way. Thank you for your custom Suburban Transport Services”;If there are delays – “We are currently experiencing delays and a vehicle will be despatched to you as soon as possible. Thank you for using Suburban Transport Services”;If incomplete details are sent – “Thanks for your SMS. Please provide the following details………”

Yellow Cabs
Simply enter your name and exact street pick-up address and suburb and SMS to 0428 13 1924** and a Yellow Cab is instantly dispatched.
** – This SMS service is only available in Brisbane, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Toowoomba, Warwick, Ipswich and Hobart (TAS.)
