Every Australian Counts. Support the NDIS: Australians with a disability, their families and carers deserve a fair go.
I ask you to sign up as a supporter of this campaign, at www.everyaustraliancounts.com.au. This new scheme is not just for people who have disabilities now but to make it easier for anybody in the Australian community who may acquire a disability at anytime in the future.
In order to have the scheme supported by Parliamentarians so that it will be adopted as soon as possible and, to reform community attitude in the way services are provided to those who need them - now or in the future - you need to register you support now! Take action for those who have disabilities now and those who will in the future.
It only takes 1 second to acquire a disability; it can happen to anybody at anytime.
You can also help someone win a free pass to the National Disability and Carer Congress need 800-1000 people in order to show both the media and the politicians that the NDIS is an important issue, so follow the links below.
Lesley and her husband live in a suburb outside Perth. They're parents to three boys. Their youngest son, 21 year old Conor was born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a degenerative condition that means your muscles constantly break down and cannot repair themselves.
Over time Conor has lost the ability to walk and feed himself - and the condition will gradually affect almost every bodily function.
About forty-five boys in Australia are born every year with Duchenne. It's only boys who get this condition and they usually live to their mid to late twenties.
What Lesley wants is for Conor to have the equipment and care that he needs. She wants to be a mother to her son, instead of his daily carer.
Conor wants a chance at a future where he can be as independent as possible, finish his degree and have his own life.
An NDIS will give help give Conor and Lesley that kind of future.
Their story isn't unique, but it's one of many that need to be told. We all know people whose lives have been affected because we don’t have an NDIS.
Watch Lesley and Conor tell their story, and take a moment to learn how an NDIS could change their lives.
In February the Productivity Commission recommended the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme to help resolve the really big issues faced by Lesley and Conor.
We need your help to share Lesley and Conor's story Link , to show people how an NDIS will make every Australian count.
In the six weeks since we launched our campaign over 10,000 pioneers like you have joined us. We need your help to reach 100,000 people before the final report from the Productivity Commission is handed to the Government at the end of July. An NDIS will mean that Lesley, Conor and thousands of other Australians have a chance of:
a life with the right equipment,
a life with better relationships,
a life with assistance,
a life which can be planned
and a life with the kind of dignity that most of us take for granted.
Share their story and tell your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues. You are our Every Australian Counts pioneers who will help us spread the message to every corner of this country.
